The older we grow, your responsibilities seem to grow even larger. You went from worrying about making it to school on time to now having to actively keep up with friends and pay the bills…on time. It’s a common fact that being an adult is stressful AF. And everyone tends to put their personal needs on hold until that last task is done. But I hate to break it to you, you’ll never be done! So why not show yourself some good loving right now! Here are some ways to make yourself a priority TODAY!
Learn to say NO!
No was probably one of the first word you learned and yet you forgot how to say it! You don’t have to go out, you don’t have to pick up the phone, you don’t have to do a favor. No means no and it requires NO EXPLANATION. Ya ken? The sooner you say no, the sooner you can start saying…
YES!
Say yes to yourself. Yes, you should treat yourself to a new work outfit. Yes, you deserve a quiet night alone. Yes, you should put your phone on DND. Now, let me be clear, I am not talking about starting some habit where you alienate yourself and spend all of your money. I’m simply saying…yes, honey, it took a lifetime to create you and you deserve a little happiness.
Do something that you absolutely LOVVEEE.
What gets you to your happy place? Is it taking a photography class? Cooking your favorite meal? Volunteering? Watching babies and dogs on youtube? (My personal favorite) Whatever tickles your fancy, YOU. MUST. DO IT! (as long as you’re not hurting anyone!) Go back to the hobby that gave you the greatest joy and set time aside to do it once a month or once a week if you can. Don’t let your current job run your entire life. Whether you work a 9 to 5 or have the grave yard shift. There are still 24 hours in a day. Find a way to reach your happiness within that every day.
Save your money and be your own therapist!
I’m talking about good ole fashion self talk. Ain’t nothing wrong with sitting yourself down and saying what YOU need to hear. Be your own bestfriend. I do it constantly, and FYI…that doesn’t make me crazy! I knew what you were thinking! We often forget to love ourselves first, but we are all we have. No need to create drama and tell everyone your business. Let your mind steer the conversation, and if someone tries to interrupt…umm excuse you! Tell em to mind their business! Finish that convo and feel hella better sis!
Feed that Mind, Body, and Soul
If you’re tired, take a nap. If your mind is hungry, read a book. If you’re scared, go to church! Only you know what’s best for you. Whatever it is that you need, go after it and replenish yourself. We can’t have you walking around at 50%, I need my people to be their best self and continue to shine. Everything else can wait, you are more than worth it.
Just taking the time to read this post is one step in the right direction. You have acknowledged that you deserve better. Start today, I promise will to feel better. Your mind will feel reseted, and your vibes will be in tune with the real you! Every so often you may slip back into your old dynamic, but don’t let that discourage you.
